  9. late-breaking information to supplement the FMV
  10. V3.0 documentation and details of the End User 
  11. License Agreement.

  14. Basic V6.0 Runtimes required to run FMV.

  81. FMV is written in MS C++ V6.0 and MS-Visual Basic V6.0.
  82. FMV is 'built' with the following Microsoft service
  83. packs and control/OCX upgrades applied. These
  84. upgrades are applied immediately prior to 
  85. each build to ensure we distribute up to date 
  86. dll's and OCX's :-
  87.

  89. MS_Windows NT V4.0 SP5
  90.  
  91. FMV is tested on a Win NT4.0 network,
  92. Win 98(2nd Ed) and Win95 with 'out of the box'
  93. operating system builds. Current service packs 
  94. are applied to test machines where appropriate.

  96. FMV does not write to the registry.
  97. FMV Delivers FULL CD-Audio quality and does not 
  98. restrict the quality.
  99. FMV will NOT automatically associate itself with
  100. ANY file types.

  103. FMV is virus checked with Norton AV and ViruScan
  104. for Windows NT prior to distribution.
  105.  
  106. FMV does NOT gather OR transmit any data about
  107. your PC or the movies you watch over the internet.
  108. NOTE :- Some other popular streaming / Player
  109. software does ! Whats more, it they did it
  110. without the end users knowledge !

  113. ** FMV's Most common Tech support requests are :-
  114.  
  115. Installation.
  116. The installation of media player is ONLY required
  117. to update codecs on your system.If you have Internet
  118. Explorer V5.x, you will ALREADY have the required
  119. files and do not need to download or install it.
  120. Win95 Users who do NOT have WMP 6.4 do require
  121. to upgrade their version of WMP.
  122.  
  123. The upgrade can be freely downloaded from 
  124. :-http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia
  125.  
  126. Use a screen resolution of :-
  127. LARGE fonts (1024x768 or higher) if possible.
  128.  
  129. QuickTime Movie Streams
  130. To save a Quicktime Movie stream,
  131. wait till the movie has stopped playing in
  132. your browser, now click the options button
  133. on the embedded Quicktime player and select
  134. 'Save as'. You can now either save the movie
  135. locally on your hard disk or as a 'stream source'
  136. If you save as a 'stream source', you must be connected
  137. to the internet to view this movie.
  138.

  140. Control Registration Errors.
  141. If an error is generated trying to register
  142. msdxm.ocx, or any other control, this is usually for
  143. the following reasons :- 
  144.  
  145. A) MS-Media Player(WMP)has not been installed 
  146.  
  147. or 
  148.  
  149. B) The version of media player on your system is
  150. out dated. Upgrade your current copy of 
  151. mediaplayer from the Microsoft website - 
  152.  
  153. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia.
  154. (You do not need the latest BETA V7)
  155.  
  156. AVI to MPEG convertor
  157. The frame rate the video was recorded at and the
  158. audio format is very important. Both of these
  159. however can be converted in the timeline 
  160. editor prior to converting the AVI to an MPEG.
  161. On some systems, it is also advisable to remove
  162. the source AVI file from FMV's playlist prior to
  163. compressing - A shareing violation can occasionally
  164. result otherwise.
  165.  
  166. Please read the AVITOMPEG.FAQ in the folder you 
  167. installed FMV into.
  168.  
  169.  
  170. TIMELINE EDITOR
  171. There is a 'SAVE OPTIONS' dialog in the timeline
  172. editor with a dropdown for BOTH the 
  173. video and audio streams. The convertor will 
  174. only convert AVI's with PCM format audio. You 
  175. can alsojust extract the audio from an avi by 
  176. deleting the video stream in the timeline 
  177. editor and then just saving it as type WAV. 
  178.  
  179.  
  180. Use the CONTROL and SHIFT Keys to select sections
  181. of both audio and video.
  182.  
  183. The timeline editor will ALSO convert bitmaps 
  184. to AVI's just point it at the FIRST bitmap in 
  185. the sequence. It is however a little more 'fussy'
  186. than the bitmap to Movie Converter.
  187.  
  188. If you use the animations while playing CD Audio
  189. tracks, a P300 or better is required for 
  190. adequate performance. If you do not have such a 
  191. powerful PC, just switch this feature off.
  192. This is a VERY CPU intensive process ! This is 
  193. especially true whilst playing MP3 files.
  194.  
  195. *** Running multiple Copies of FMV
  196. You may start multiple copies of FMV. FMV will 
  197. allow this as there are occasions where you may 
  198. wish to visually compare two collections. 
  199. Additionally, it is sometimes very useful to 
  200. have the 'capture Window' open on one copy and 
  201. the 'AVI Editor' open on another copy. You can 
  202. then just 'Cut and Paste' between the two. We 
  203. do not advise you to run two copies of FMV in
  204. normal use however. Do not load \ play collections that
  205. contain the same movie.

  271. If you are installing FMV 3.00 for the first time,
  272. run the setup.exe program and select the appropriate choices.

  280. 1) The Audio animations are VERY CPU intensive. 
  281. If they appear erratic, switch them off in the 
  282. preferences. Also don't leave them running when 
  283. using other applications simultaneously.
  284. When minimised however, FMV enters a very low 
  285. CPU usage mode and will not interfere with 
  286. other running tasks.(i.e Typically  1 - 3% CPU 
  287. use)

  290. 2)The CD Audio to WAV convertor may not work if
  291. you have a slow CD-ROM Drive.
  292. Additionally if you have problems with audio you
  293. have recorded like this in the TimeLine editor, use the WAV\Convert\Edit
  294. option and just re-save the WAV file in the
  295. correct format.
  296.  
  297. Other
  298. -------
  299. CD-Audio tracks are NOT played in collections 
  300. as some older type CD's were not designed for 
  301. continual use. 
  302. These older type drives may overheat and become 
  303. damaged (One of our old 2x drives gave up the
  304. ghost after about 8hrs continual use but it was 
  305. disturbingly HOT - It was a popular brand as 
  306. well). This is also the reason that we have 
  307. removed CD-Audio from screensavers that FMV 
  308. creates. 
  309.  
  310. If you have an older type CD-Rom drive, you 
  311. should bear the above in mind when using other 
  312. applications that may play CD-Audio for 
  313. prolonged periods of time.
  314.   
  315. ***** To use the QuickTime Special effects or
  316. to play new QuickTime Movies such as 'Phantom 
  317. Menace', you must install the FULL QuickTime 
  318. Download from Apple. This is about an 8MB 
  319. download but for some of the best special 
  320. effects about, it's well worth the download. 
  321. The full FMV demo CD ships with the QuickTime 
  322. installation files and NO downloading is 
  323. required. *****

  326. If you intend to create lots of special 
  327. effects, we would also advise that you purchase 
  328. QuickTime 4.1 Pro (USD29.99) and use it's 
  329. exporting functions to convert your effects to 
  330. AVI's for editing in FMV.

  335. You may use 'shift extend' to add several files 
  336. at a time from the File Add dialog.

  359. Section 2:  Before You Run Installation,
  360. Be Sure To...
  361.  
  362. Before installing any Windows application, you
  363. may want to perform a little housekeeping.  You 
  364. may skip these steps and go directly to the 
  365. installation steps (described in sections 3 and 
  366. 4), but keep these housekeeping suggestions in 
  367. mind if you run into any installation problems:
  368.  
  369.  
  370. *  Disable any FMV or other screen savers before
  371. using or installing FMV.  Other screen 
  372. savers may interfere with the display of 
  373. graphics and cursors.Additionally, switch off 
  374. any Virus checking software during the 
  375. installation.You may virus check the files 
  376. before and after the installation but some virus
  377. checkers may cause the installer problems 
  378. during the installation.
  379.  
  380. To playback MPEG files, YOU MUST BE RUNNING A
  381. MPEG CODEC IN ORDER FOR THIS APPLICATION TO RUN 
  382. PROPERLY.Be sure to get the latest video 
  383. drivers from your graphics board or system 
  384. manufacturer.  If you just upgraded your system 
  385. from Windows 3.1X to Windows 95,  you must 
  386. contact you graphics board or system 
  387. manufacturer to receive their latest version of 
  388. Windows 95 video drivers.  If you are running a 
  389. software MPEG codec such as MediaMatics, 
  390. ActiveMovie, or CompCore, you must also make 
  391. sure that you have DirectDraw available and 
  392. loaded on your system.  If this seems 
  393. confusing, and it is, please contact your 
  394. board manufacturer or system manufacturer for 
  395. details specific to your system.  They will be 
  396. able to fully describe your system to you and 
  397. all the requirements for MPEG playback!

  400. Section 4:  Running FMV
  401. ---------------------------------
  402. Starting FMV:
  403.  
  404. The installation program will also create a 
  405. program group called "FMV " with an icon for 
  406. the FMV.  Just double click the FMV icon to run 
  407. as stand alone program. 
  408.

  410. Adding Your Own Movies and Graphics to FMV:
  411.  
  412. To add your own multimedia elements to FMV, 
  413. check out our built in help file for more 
  414. details.

  416. Section 5:  Uninstalling from Windows 95/98/NT
  417. ---------------------------------------------
  418.  
  419. To uninstall FMV on your computer under Windows 95,
  420. simply access the Control Panel and run 
  421. Add/Remove Programs by double clicking the 
  422. icon. You will see an entry called "FMV."  
  423.  
  424. Select this entry (by single clicking the text) 
  425. and then select click on the Remove button.  
  426. This action will delete all the files installed 
  427. by FMV, and remove all references to FMV.
  428. IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED THAT YOU DO NOT REMOVE
  429. ALL SHARED COMPONENTS - SPECIFICALLY MSDXM.OCX.
  430.  
  431. If you have created collections or saved 
  432. graphics in the folder you installed FMV into, 
  433. the uninstaller will NOT remove the folder.Just 
  434. delete the contents of the folder and then 
  435. delete the folder.

  478. of End-User Products include animations,
  479. courseware, presentations, demonstration disks,
  480. interactive multimedia material, interactive
  481. entertainment,copies of FMV, products bearing
  482. similar resemblance to FMV or it's interface
  483. or GUI and the like.

  485. 1.4 "SSL Run-Time" means the portion of the SSL 
  486. software required in order for the End-User 
  487. Product to operate on hardware on which the SSL 
  488. Software is not resident.

  490. 2. License. This Agreement allows you to:

  492. 2.1 Use the SSL Software on a single computer for 15 days only.
  493.  
  494. 2.2 Make one copy of the SSL Software in machine-readable
  495. form solely for backup purposes. You must reproduce
  496. on any such copy all copyright notices and any
  497. other proprietary legends on the original copy of the SSL 
  498. Software.

  500. 2.3 Certain SSL Software is licensed with additional
  501. rights as set forth in the Supplementary Rights
  502. Addendum that may be included in the package
  503. for this SSL Product.

  506. 3. Supplementary Licenses. Certain rights are 
  507. not granted under this Agreement, but may be 
  508. available under a separate agreement.If you 
  509. would like to enter into one of the

  513. 3.1 Site Licenses. You must enter into a SSL 
  514. Site License if you wish to make copies of the 
  515. SSL Software for use with additional CPU's 
  516. owned by you.

  521. SSL Run-Time Distribution Agreement if you wish 
  522. to copy and distribute an End-User Product (and 
  523. its Associated SSL Run-Time) other than as set

  526. 4. Restrictions. You may not make or distribute 
  527. copies of the SSL Product, or electronically 
  528. transfer the SSL Software from one computer to 
  529. another or over a network. You may not 
  530. decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, or 
  531. otherwise reduce the SSL Software to a 
  532. human-perceivable form. You may not modify,
  533. rent, resell for profit, distribute or create 
  534. derivative works based upon the SSL Software or 
  535. any part thereof. You will not export or 
  536. reexport, directly or indirectly, the SSL 
  537. Product into any country prohibited by the 
  538. United Kingdom legislation.

  540. 5. Ownership. The foregoing license grants give 
  541. you limited rights to use the SSL Software.
